What gift would you bring?

This evening we had some nice dinner conversation. The question we posed ourselves was "If each one of us were to approach the stable or cave where Baby Jesus was born, what special gift would we bring?" Here's how it all started . . .

Watching the music video.
The other day the kids watched an old VHS cartoon of "The Little Drummer Boy." They love that story and have asked me a number of times if it is fiction or a true story.

And then this week the youTube music video of Pentatonix's version of "The Little Drummer Boy" went viral. We've been captivated. Such a beautiful song and such a touching story.

So several times in the last few days the question has been raised, "What special gift do you have that you would bring to the manger?" Sage and I pondered it a bit over lunch today but were left wondering.

Tonight at dinner the question was raised again. "If you found yourself honored to be in the presence of Joseph, Mary, and Baby Jesus that very special night, what special offering do you think you would bring?"

We pondered this for each member of our family and here are the conclusions we came to (so far!).

Sage: he would kneel down before the baby Jesus and smile that special smile that is full of dimply sweetness.
Basil: he would say something like this, "Mary, good job tonight with that tough work. Joseph, way to guide the family safely to Bethlehem. Baby Jesus, you are the most precious baby ever. I love you so much."
Dad: he would also play a special song on his drum(s). He has a special gift with drums. Or now that I think of it, he'd probably write a special verse for the babe.
Nutmeg: one of the boys thought she do ballet around the stable, Doug and I thought she'd march right over to Baby Jesus, pick him up out of Mary's arms and cuddle him to pieces.
Mom: Sage said "You'd bring food." And we all laughed because that would likely be true. And then afterwards, I'd probably pull a bottle of Vitamin D out of my pocket and give everyone a drop on the tongue.

What about you? Do tell!

  1. I would bring love and be joyous and give clothing for the baby Jesus. I would thank all of them for our Savior.
