Just Checking In . . .

The weather outside is . . .
hot! Phew!  We are still getting used to this humidity. It's in the 90's today. I'm looking forward to the mildly warm autumn days.

One of my favorite things . . .
the farmer's market! Oh, how happy those few minutes every Saturday makes me! Sometimes we venture out as a family but I often head out early in the morning by myself.  It is so refreshing to enjoy the fresh morning air, talk with our local farmers, and buy such fresh, wholesome goodness. Yum!

In the kitchen . . .
lots of corn on the cob (my family demands this weekly!) and other summer recipes filled with produce from the farmer's market. Oh, I could live like this year round!

The kids and I are reading . . .
lots of random picture books and "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland."  "Alice" is going fairly well.  The narrative can get a bit long and detailed but it is quite fanciful and imaginative.  Right up the kids' alley.  I think we'll stick it out.

On my nightstand . . .
"Peter the Great: His Life and World"  This biography is massive but you know, it reads like a novel.  It's fantastic!

Family verse of the week . . .
this is actually for the next two weeks: Phillipians 4:8.  Our memory verses this year will correspond the to virtues we'll be studying monthly.  This month we are doing a basic introduction to the virtues in general.

"Whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is gracious, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things."

God is good . . .
Part of what makes life come together is relationship. Friendship. Community. God has been so very good in connecting us to like-minded families.  And so soon.  We are blessed!

On my heart and in my prayers . . .
A lot, actually.  A big one is our home. We still need to sell our home in Washington.  There always seems to be something in our lives that requires us to flex our "patience muscles." And faith/trust muscles too.  I look forward to our home selling and then finding just the right place to put down roots. Aaahh, but God is good. I must not doubt.

Speaking of patience and waiting.  I've had to think about it before.  Lol, haven't we all??!!!  Anyhow, here's a all-time favorite article on the subject. Oh, I love it. It reminds me that in waiting and trusting, I'm in good company.

Learning all the time . . .
Math. We are using Singapore Math again this year. Math-wise I've never had the light come on for me as far as curriculum goes. It's so hard to know unless you just try it out and math choices can get expensive. At this point, it just doesn't make sense for me to sink a ton of money into it when you can just use whatever is around the house. But at the same time, I'm not super confident with Math, so I at least need a basic plan to follow. Last year I chose Singapore after much research and deliberation.  It was just fine and did the trick. This summer I searched more and again came back to Singapore. I'm not at all disappointed.  There are lots of ideas for active learning and that's my main aim when it comes to Math. Boys love activity!

Plans for the rest of the week . . .
we're hoping to get out to an apple orchard and Basil's first day of the soccer season is Saturday.
