Just Checking In . . .

The weather outside is . . .
Sunny and chilly.  The sun is just rising over the horizon.  I've been getting myself out of bed earlier to do some quiet time reading Scripture and praying (finally!!), so I've been blessed to see the sun rise more often.  It's wonderful!  This week the temps have dropped, so we are wearing sweatshirts part of the time.  I kinda like the crisp air.

One of my favorite things . . .
Rocking out and dancing to songs on Pandora with my lil' Nutmeg.  When a song comes on she likes, she runs around and yells "Dance with me!!!" Cutie patootie.

In the kitchen . . .
A small batch of applesauce and an apple pie.  I was able to save a little applesauce for the freezer.  I like to use the applesauce for some sweet breads when the weather gets cold.

The kids and I are reading . . .
We are just about done with "Alice."  We are reading about earthworms this week.  I also found a new Uri Shulevitz picture book this week.  He's such a wonderful children's author.  All three kids are finding his newest so wonderfully imaginative.  It's called "When I Wore My Sailor Suit."

On my nightstand . . .
Just about finished with "Peter the Great."  It's kept me up late a couple nights.  It was so tough to put down.  I made a little more headway with "Drawing with Children."  I think we are just about ready for our first lesson.  I'm also trying to pick up "Putting Down Rails" as often as possible.  This book is a collection of Charlotte Mason's thoughts on training children in "habits."  More on this one later.

Family Verse:
Wrapping up Phil 4:8.  I can't remember what the next verse will be; I haven't checked the virtue binder  yet.  Busy, busy.

God is good . . .
Where do I start, huh?  In so many ways, His goodness is all apparent.  This transition has left me more discontent then the last one.  I'm much more anxious to find our home.  But last night as I went for a walk, I was reminded of the little things.  God shows His love for us in the little things.  He dropped this apartment right in our lap.  It's quiet and private.  The neatest part is that it is right off a bike trail.  It's quite easy for the kids and I to go for a nature walk down by the river or go to the park.  In the evenings Doug and I are able to cut each other loose to go workout.  So last night Doug took the kids and I was able to get some refreshment by stepping right out our door for a walk/run.  So thankful that He cares about those "little things" in our lives.

On my heart and in my prayers . . .
The sale of our house, contentment in waiting, and my minute by minute parenting.

Learning, learning all the time . . .
This week we are talking about worms.  Nice! Yesterday we embarked on "Operation Worm."  And failed.  Ouch, that hurt.  The kids and I went with pails and spoons to go dig up  some worms.  It turned into an all morning affair and we were left wanting. You don't realize how hard it is to find worms until you can't find good dirt.  My discontentment rushes in again.  Since our "yard" is asphalt, it makes the finding difficult.  But God is good.  A few weeks ago a family gave us an open invitation to visit their house anytime to explore nature.  They live in the country. So now we are all set up to go dig in their garden for worms and enjoy dinner together afterwards.  So yes, we are talking all about worms and soon, we'll actually be able to see some!

Plans for the rest of the week . . .
Extra work for Daddy-O this week. A worm and dinner party.  Girl's night out in the Dells. Soccer game for Basil.  And lots of Reading, Writing, and Arithmetic.

See God in the little things this week!  He's there and He loves you!!
