The weather outside is . . .
Nippy. The boys keep a little weather journal everyday. Around 9:20am everyday we check the temperature and write it down in the weather journals. Today it was 36 degrees. Brr. . .
One of my favorite things . . .
great shopping deals. Yes, I admit it. I do like to shop. It doesn't happen very often but we made it happen this week. We have a Land's End distribution center in one of the smaller towns around here and a recent acquaintance filled us in on an Employee's Clearance Sale. Wahoo. On Tuesday morning the kids and I braved the crowds at the sale. I was so proud of the kiddos. Normally shopping with the three kids is something I avoid but it was unavoidable. Needless to say, Basil and Nutmeg spend most of the time crawling under the racks. But honestly, crawling under racks was probably the best spot for little ones this time around. Anyhow, I came out with 6 awesome winter sweaters, jackets for Doug and myself, and three shirts at an awesome price! Yeehaw!
pumpkin, pumpkin, pumpkin. I bought a pumpkin at the farmer's market last week, so we had pumpkin gingersnaps, pumpkin sausage pasta, and pumpkin pancakes with ginger butter.
Basil has been my new companion in the kitchen. He's such an active guy; he always love to get in there and DO things. A few weeks ago I let him knead the bread dough for the first time. He did great! So we made bread together again this week. We've been sprinkling some cinnamon in it for a little hint of autumn.
The boys and I are reading . . .
We just picked up "The Jungle Book" by Rudyard Kipling last night for the first time. Nutmeg was too noisy to get much out of it though, so we'll read it when she's napping.
On my nightstand . . .
"Treasure Island" by Robert Louis Stevenson. Yep, that's right. What can I say? I'm a mother of boys. It's fun to pre read this one (nope, never read it in my youth). They are going to love this one. I think I'll wait a few years though.
Family Verse
Ephesians 6:16 "In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one . . ."
God is good . . .
He answers prayer. And He meets us in our weakness. Truly, when we are weak He is strong. Sometimes we just have to let go. We fall to the ground but He picks us up and carries us along. Thankful for His steadfast presence.
On my heart and in my prayers . . .
hurting hearts in Minnesota this week. Some dear friends of our dear friends died tragically this week. This couple was out canoeing in the boundary waters last week and were overtaken by a storm and hypothermia. Please pray for all the loved ones!! This is when life is so hard to understand.
Learning, learning all the time.
Mama's learning to draw with the kids! I never learned to draw as a child and never had confidence that I had any artistic ability. It's been such a joy to do a little research and dig right in alongside the boys. I love discovering together with them! This is when life is exhilarating!
