I've been wanting to beef up our Math studies with some great drill practice for basic math facts. Basil seems to pick up things quite easily in all subjects but Sage needs a gentle, patient, and imaginative teacher and methods of learning. He is an interesting one to work alongside. He is a talented boy but it takes more effort to get to know his style.
Here you see him working with the abacus from Right Start Math. We love the abacus. It is a great visual for numbers and understanding quantities. Sage uses it quite often. My role model in this home educating journey suggested checking out "First in Math." FIM has an online math program. Yesterday I went ahead and ordered a six month subscription for Sage. We were both so pleased! For the first time, he spent 20 minutes working on his math facts with undivided attention. He was proud of his accomplishments and enjoyed himself. Yeah!
Secondary added benefits are that he was able to work independently and is learning a bit about computers/technology at the same time. After a check-in with the hubby at work, I went ahead ordered a subscription for Basil as well. Three cheers for a new learning tool!
Our three sweeties! Thank you Lord for these three gifts. |
