1000 Gifts: The Views Around Here, #70, #71, #72

When people ask where we are from or where we came from I'm not always sure what to say. Sometimes I may say Alaska (where I grew up) or we started our family in Minnesota or we moved from Washington. If I list off the places we lived or a person mentions Colorado and I say "Oh, Colorado. I lived in Colorado for a while; nice place." we sound like some adventurers or something. To some anyhow. We're not really. Maybe just a bit.

Anyhow, we/I have lived in some wonderful places. Alaska, eastern Washington, Colorado. Beautiful. So when I found out the Lord was moving us to small town Wisconsin, I was less than thrilled. But I knew I had to give it a chance. Everywhere is just a place. Every place has people who are special, every place has a history, and every place has its own special uniqueness. I knew that I could at least give Wisconsin a chance because a love for the country life had been awakened in me  from dear old Greenbluff in Washington. So I thought "Okay, heck if we are going to move to Wisconsin, let's go country. Why not? Let's get a white house with some land out in the country." And by golly, that's just what God did. So here we are.

Our area does have its own special uniqueness and a special history. I love it. There is still so much to learn. One thing we have here is Circus World. We've only been once (with Grandma S) but it was magical for us and the kids. So gift #70 is the unique drive we have every time we drive into town. Circus World is on the road we drive into town. What other kid sees an elephant every time he drives to baseball practice? I remember just after we moved to Wisconsin I went on an evening bike ride on the city's paved bike trail. I was enjoying the evening quiet on my ride beside the river. I look over and low and behold, an elephant grazing beside the river! lol! Only in Baraboo. As an Alaskan girl I'm used to seeing moose on bike rides but elephants, not so much! Love it!!

#71  Our home sits on the edge of the Baraboo Hills. So I suppose in a way, we are up on the side of a hill. We have a nice little view. The evenings are fantastic! We tuck the kids into bed for the evening, the sun sets and we are in for a treat just about every single night. The sunsets here are simply wondrous! Some of you will get to enjoy them with us! What a treat every night when I brush my teeth.

#72  For some reason in this particular area we are in quite a number of people own horses. On our drive home I'd say there are six homes with horses. And not just one or two. A number of them. The farm just kitty corner from us raises Norwegian Fjord Horses. Oh my lands! Now THOSE are some gorgeous horses. I've never really been a horse lover but wow, they are beautiful. I love looking out my kitchen window on a sunny morning to see the red barn, silo, and a horse galloping across the green pasture. Amazing. We are so blessed.

Funny thing. Yesterday around 6:30 Doug leaves for work and immediately I get a phone call from him. He calls from the road in front of the house and says "Umm hun, don't let the kids outside. There are horses running behind my car." I look out the window and sure enough seven horses are running around in the street. Apparently they got out of the fencing somehow. They aren't really going anywhere but they all running up and down the street. It's kinda amusing really. I don't know the neighbors phone number, so I can the police to tell them the neighbors horses have gotten out and running around the neighborhood. But soon I see a golf cart and a four wheeler out herding the horses back. It took them a little while. Another fun and interesting morning.

And check out this article Sarah pointed out . . .

  1. Love the Baraboo news, and that it is setting well with you. It is #4 in the top ten places to visit in the USA! You have the vacation wonders of the Wisconsin Dells, and the famous Circus World....loved by all! The downtown is enchanting to see and the people seem to be wonderful. The story about the horses is hysterical, chasing hubby down the road!!

The article about home schooling was great! I have three helpers at Promiseland (Sunday School) who are home schooled and super smart!
