Just Checking In . . .

The weather outside is . . .
Delightful! Oh, I just get giddy at this time of year! LOVE it! I can't really enjoy it as much as I'd like this year because I don't feeling up to taking the kids on hikes but still, so much to enjoy. Sunny and 70's! My favorite! So fresh and crisp. The anticipation of the bursts of color that will happen soon. Aaah. Can't forget everything apple and pumpkin. Yumminess!  I'd better stock up on the cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves! I love to decorate for autumn but I'm not sure that will happen this year. Still beauty and freshness abounds!

I'm hearing . . .
Nutmeg chattering away in her bedroom playing with her fuzzy friends. The boys are resting on the couch after lunch. They might be a tad tired. We bought a swim pass for this fall and went swimming this morning. Great decision! Gets us all some fantastic exercise!

Pear apple sauce

In the kitchen . . .
I'm slowing down a bit in the kitchen too but I do manage to create yummy things in spurts. The produce is so abundant during this part of the year, one has to take advantage of it all. Our pear tree is bending down with plenteous pears, the apple tree is producing a bit, and we've also got zucchini, basil, tomatoes, and pumpkins in the garden. Last weekend I made some pear apple sauce. We decided that our favorite pancakes were these awesome zucchini pancakes but then we  had our first batch of pumpkins pancakes of the year yesterday morning. Oh yum! Too close to decide; both were so good. We've also been enjoying fresh salsa using tomatoes from the garden and made up a huge batch of pesto to use this winter. Life's good!

In the garden . . .
Some of the bounty
Um ya. We covered that I think. Chaos but still finding some goodness there. Very exciting to be harvesting pumpkins for the first time ever.

On my nightstand . . .
"Jack and Jill" by Louis Mae Alcott. I like it but I do need to find some new things to stimulate my mind.

The boys and I are reading . . .
"The Five Little Peppers."

The baby growing business . . .
is going fine. I'm slowing down and starting to feel some tightness. Resting is becoming more necessary. Trying to keep positive. Doing some prenatal yoga every morning has been helping my back. I'm thankful for that. My sacrum still hurts and my back is stiff at night but the yoga makes it much better this time around.

Learning, learning all the time. . .
We've got a couple weeks back at the books under our belts. It was quite tough for the first several days but I think we are starting to find our groove now. We are enjoying all our selections. The Greek history is tough but we'll keep at it. We started a grammar book and the boys rave about it. I find it funny that they really look forward to working on grammar.

The rest of the week . . .
Well, Mr. Doug has some projects that need to be hammered out very soon. So he'll probably spend the weekend doing that. I forsee a very hard week for me next week. Pray, if you will. I'll need it for my sanity and also for my stamina. Next week I have two doctors appointments in Madison, a 5am run to the airport with all the kids in tow (Doug will be in Philadelphia), homeschool group at the library, hosting Travel Club, and single parenting for four days. Phew! I think I see some freezer meals and movies in my future.

Love ya all!!!

More recess at the beach:

  1. Sounds good...except for manning the fort all week... going to Madison is a routine journey, I guess, but getting checked by the experts is a good thing. As time goes on, I wonder if some young girls could help out during the day...I think school may have an early recess for December?
