This is my mom. Hi Mom! I love you!
Stopping by an old Russian Orthodox Church on the way back from Ninilchik. The church is located on the bluff and the Russian village is down below. We didn't get pictures of all that this time around.
As a kid, the flowering of the fireweed meant to me that school was starting soon. Mountains, fireweed, and a salmon dinner make me feel right at home. |
One night we had a unique dinner. A friend of a friend invented this campfire dinner and called them Waddingers. They constructed a special rod that you wrap dough around, the dough is cooked over the fire, and then you stuff the bread with whatever fixings you'd like, even dessert. That night we stuffed the bread with Philly Cheesesteak-type ingredients and pie filling for dessert. I love this fun idea!
Love these! And now I know the story of Waddingers...I looked it up everywhere and found there was no such thing! but there is on the Kenai Peninsula. The kids are so cute. Good to see a picture of Grandma Jan. Did she retire?
