Yesterday we had on our chalkboard: ". . . you are dust and to dust you will return."
Nothing like reminding ourselves of our impermanence to get our priorities straight, right? In the beginning God formed us from the dust of the earth and one day our bodies will again waste away to dust. So what we will do to prepare ourselves for the time when thse bodies are no more?
These 40 days are a time to focus on prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. When I think of almsgiving I usually think of giving to the poor or needy. Yes, God has a compassionate heart for the poor. The poor in material possessions, definitely, but I was reminded yesterday that there are also other ways in which a person can be poor. Poor in love, poor in encouragement, poor in friendship, poor in many capacities. Where can I give "alms?" Where can I find it in myself to be generous? Pray for me to have my eyes open for opportunities.
Very well done!
