Neighbor

Howdy There,

We wish you a blessed Sunday!

It's been a nice day.  We had friends over for lunch today after church.  Aaah.  Good conversation. Nothing hits the spot like being real/open/authentic with those with whom you share the journey. Just as our friends were leaving, our neighbor's daughter called. The sap is running! Time to start collecting!

Last year about this time we had the opportunity to help our friends at Camp Gray collect some sap from their maple trees. It was a great experience even just being there a couple hours. It was neat to also watch a little of the boiling process.  I saw them in church today and they let us know that they tapped the trees yesterday.  But we also had another opportunity to be involved in the maple syrup season!

Doug met our older neighbor and also his daughter this past year. We found out that the man lives on the same road as us and they both also go to the same church. They said they would have to invite us over to see the maple syrup making process. Count us in!  We hadn't had a chance to get up to his house yet but today was the day! This morning D (what I'll call the daughter) let me know they had tapped and would start collecting soon.

Mace was sleeping, so Doug stayed home while three of us headed over. What treat!  We had a blast getting to know our neighbor and helping to collect the sap.  What a fascinating man too! We look forward to getting to know him better. After collecting sap, he gave us a tour of his house that he built after he retired. Amazing! He's also built the most incredible wood workshop. He made all the wood flooring in his house, as well as the trimming around the doors and windows.  Really, really neat.

Anyhow, we look forward to getting to know our neighbor more. He's 78 years old and can use some help collecting sap. It's a good all around!

  1. That looks like fun! Basil is doing a good job of collecting. Nutmeg is sure enjoying the tractor ride with the neighbors. This is great that there are new friends right on your road and go to the same church! Poor Daddy and Mace...stuck for nap time. Maybe it is time for a Neighborhood group on Neuman Road! Real Maple Syrup so good. My dad used to bring home a gallon twice a year or more from work . As chemist he had connections with a lot of saps! Pardon the pun!!
