A Favorite Thing

It's a good thing we got out so much yesterday because the rain has indeed begun. Dark and rainy it is today.

We do this little thing in the fall that I just love. A simple little routine but it restores my soul. Devil's Lake State Park is a short drive from our house but during the summer is so busy with tourists. After school starts, it gets much quieter. So on a handful of days in autumn I plan for crockpot dinners. After Doug gets off work, we take our crockpot and head to the lake. It is so beautiful in the evenings with the sunset and the still, quiet waters. It is so restorative to sit down to a cozy dinner and watch a kayaker paddle across the lake. After dinner we usually play a bit by the lake, run around the playground, and then head home for showers.

This is one of my very favorite family traditions.  What about you?  What is a tradition/routine that you love keeping?

Basil just told me what Nutmeg is doing here. She stood like this a long time. She was letting the minnows nibble on her feet.

Darn, I waited too long for a group shot. Next time.
