Bathroom Sink Nature Study

Science. It happens.  Yesterday morning I was cleaning toothpaste out of the sink when a creepy crawly took me by surprise.  I yelled for the kids to come.  They all came and we gawked at the creature.  After a while, the poor thing crawled back down the drain.

That evening the creepy crawly creeps me out again!!  This time we captured him with a glass jar and kept him under observation overnight.  He was still alive this morning, so Basil released him.

He's a house centipede. Thanks Wikipedia.  Basil drew him in his nature notebook and we're off to a good start for our Wednesday.  Tonight we dig for worms.  It's a creepy crawly kinda week.

AND . . . we just discovered next weekend is the Wisconsin Science Festival in Madison.  We are all over it.  It will happen in some way, shape, or form, even if the kids and I have to ditch reading, writing, and arithmetic to go play mad scientist.

  1. Way to go, Basil. A house centipede...ewwww! And on the second floor! Nice printing too. Great paper there with the lines for help. So the mad scientists will be off to Madison for the Science festival. that sounds like great fun and learning....I hear my dear dad chuckling and proud...as he watches from heaven. I love science too . Thank you Dad, granddad, greatgranddad. He was such a good scientist, chemist and loved math.
