Outside my window . . .
Cloudy and cool again today. It cooled off a bit yesterday and it looks like it may do the same today.
I'm listening to . . .
Very loud chattering. Kids, I tell you. They have two settings. Asleep or loud.
In the kitchen . . .
Not too bad. We brought out the grill the other day. Very nice to be grilling again. We tried grilling our asparagus. Yum!
We're practically starving around here. |
The boys and I are reading . . .
"Arabian Nights" as told by Andrew Lang. We just finished "The Little Lame Prince" by Dinah Maria Mulock.
On my nightstand . . .
"Two Years Before the Mast" by Richard Henry Dana. Published 1840. Mr. Dana was a student at Harvard but came down with the measles in his third year. The measles affected his eyes. Thinking some time off might help, he enlisted as a common sailor. This book tells of his two years at sea aboard a merchant ship.
The garden . . .
Last night I picked up a few cucumber plants, marigolds, poles, netting, and a packet of bush bean seeds. I'm hoping to get it all in today or tomorrow.
Thinking about . . .
The devastation in Oklahoma :(
Thankfulness. I don't know about you but its way too easy for me to slump into complaining and grumbling. What a terrible habit! I'm working on snapping out of it and beginning to count my blessings again. Really, there is just no excuse for it.
Learning, learning all the time. . .
We are slowly wrapping up first grade. The boys are working through the final review for math. We just have a few readings left for history. (Speaking of history, this year we read "The Story of the Ancient World." Next year we read "The Story of the Greeks." I am stoked! I know next to nothing about ancient Greece. Wahoo! Reason #124 I love home education.) Reading is going swimmingly. Basil is just taking off in his fluency. And now Sage can be found on the couch reading books at his level.
I never got around to writing about the homeschool conference last month. It was great! Perhaps I'll get around to it one of these days. Actually, Doug is cutting me loose to go to another next weekend with a couple friends. Yeah! I love these conferences.
The rest of the week . . .
Hmm. What are we doing? Well, I need to get the boys signed up for some sports this summer. Basil is planning on baseball and Sage is doing track. We'll be busy every morning of the week. Yikes! Can't say I'm looking forward to all the running around but it will be good for them. Other than that, lessons, garden, the usual housework, etc. I'm sure this weekend we'll be doing more projects around the house. Our entryway needs to be finished and so does our bathroom.
We painted a chalkboard wall in the kitchen. |
It all sounds good! And oh my yes, every one of our worries pales when I think of the Oklahoma situation.
ReplyDeleteYou are busy crazy! Track will be great for Sage. Baseball for Basil...it fits. helmets are required now, I assume even for kids...I am thinking this is 16 inch softball for now!
