Just Checking In . . .

The weather outside is. . .

delightful. The forecast says 77 degrees today. Just perfect. Sage had track this morning and the temps were just right. That humidity can stay far away.

I'm listening to . . .

Basil and Nutmeg playing with a teeny tiny frog on the dining room floor. Oh yep, we are country around here. :) Mr. Basil does let them loose, so that's good.

In the kitchen . . .

We had a few great meals last week. Father's Day dinner=yum! Doug made some awesome burgers made from ground chuck from The Meat Market. I love getting our meat there; its great to shop local. Doug loves three bean salads from delis so I made him my own fresh one. We also had a super yummy angel food cake. Layered with a mixture of light cream cheese and lemon curd! Our first taste of lemon curd. Oh yes, I will be using that stuff again!

The boys and I are reading. . .
"Old Mother West Wind" by Thorton Burgess.

On my nightstand . . .
Last night I finished up "Strong Poison" by Dorothy Sayers. Dorothy Sayers. You know, "The Lost Tools of Learning." Classic. Which reminds me, I never have read it. Must. Do. Yeah, so Ms. Sayers writes detectives stories. It was enjoyable. Now I have "Eight Cousins" by Louisa May Alcott waiting. Oh yeah, some nice light girly stuff to put me to bed at night.

The garden . . .
Oh yes, the garden. Well, I'm certainly not going to be winning any awards for a nice tidy garden. It is a jungle! Really it is. When some of you come to visit, it will take all my willpower not to hide my face in shame.  But we have vegetables growing and that's all that matters at this point.

Doug joined me in weeding the garden the other day for about 20 minutes and funny thing, it hit my romantic spot. For some reason I really enjoyed having him out there with me, joining me in my happy place. And you know, I think he enjoyed it as well. I think it was sort of therapeutic for him. Now he's been joining me more often. The other day we tried a home remedy for killing weeds that showed some promise. So I think we'll try the concoction again at some point.

The baby growin' business . . .

Still doing pretty darn well. I do wrestle with a bit of nausea in the evenings but not bad at all. A few more weeks and I should be in the clear. My awesome new doctor had me do a consult with a perinatologist this week. It looks like I'll have to be doing frequent trips to Madison this summer. I'm not too excited about that but we'll figure it out.

I've been sleeping pretty well lately, so I've naturally been waking up earlier. Several times a week I've been able to get up before Doug leaves to go out walking or biking. So wonderful! It's great to get out there in the morning freshness to move my body and get some alone time.

The rest of the week . . .

Track and baseball.  Phew, it keeps me hoppin'. Basil is enjoying his time with the team and Sage is full of smiles at track practice. Thursday afternoon we're having friends over who will be starting to homeschool this fall and want to see what we've been doing the last couple years. Birthday party for an elderly man. Picnic at the hospital. And hopefully we can squeeze in some moving in among all that. I'm forcing myself to lower my expectations when it comes to the moving-in process. Maybe by the time baby arrives?

  1. Wow! All this is amazing..So glsd Sage likes track...he is a great runner...and you are riding a bike?????? I though that was for month nine when you want to go into labor...lol I hear you about wanting to get things in place and out of the garage so you can spruce up the garage....Hmmm...time to tap relatives to come and help....Becky? Just a thought.
Love the frog ...too cute. I remember coming back from day camp with a bucket of tadpoles that we kept on the back porch...Alas, they grew into little toads, escaped and were all over our back yard!!!! My dad could not mow for a while in the back and the dog went crazy trying to catch them!
