No pictures of my Sagester. Boohoo. Okay, I will stop complaining soon. ;) Actually, Doug got some fantastic ones on his camera yesterday that I will share with ya'll soon as soon as I get them downloaded.
Anyhow, I had to share some joy in the Sage corner today. My pride and joy for Sage is something extra special that just isn't the same as it is with the other two. He struggles through life much more. He just has a tough time with the world. We struggle too as parents. It is not easy. He's a beautiful person and I just know his struggles will be a source of unique gifting some day. We just have to get through the every day slowly and carefully.
So anyhow, Sage. We choose track for his activity this summer. It's always a blind call as to whether he will like something. But this choice . . . what a win! I know today was only the first day but even if our only success is today, its enough. Again, I was such a nerd. It was just a practice. They ran two laps around the "track" and it was all I could do to stop myself from jumping up and down in joy for him. I did cheer and yell just bit for him (no other parents cheered at all because well, duh, it was just a warm-up) but I couldn't care in the least about other people. When he came around and saw me cheering just for him, those little dimples were shining! Oh joy!
He's not a track star or anything. Gosh, I'd say he was at the back of the middle of the pack but I saw some very good things. I saw an energy in his stride. His movement was good. I was a runner and coached track a wee bit myself and I like what I saw. After one lap, the other kids started to slow down and that's when Luke started passing people. Endurance, by golly, he's going to have it! And then when he was 3/4 of the way through their little run, I saw him getting really tired. (Interjection here: I had told him this morning that they will probably be running more than he is used to. I told him that if he needs to stop and rest, that is just fine. He can rest a bit and each day he will get a little stronger. After a while, he won't need rests as often.) Well, guess what? That little guy did not stop! I saw him almost stop two times but then he picked it up and kept running all the way to the finish. Yeah Sage! I could have cried. Pregnancy hormones, I know. :)
Oh and get this . . . Mr. Basil is my all-star reader. But Sage has been making a grand appearance himself. For most of this year, we'd stumble a bit to make it through one page in our phonics book every two days. Just in the past week, the little guy has been smoothly reading through a whole page.
The other night, we were having a family movie night. Sage isn't quite the movie watcher as the other two and often gets bored. The four of us were sitting in our chairs watching the movie and Sage comes up to me with the phonics book and his white board (we use white boards for dictation practice afterwards). "Mommy, can we do reading." Oh sweet thing. After the movie, Sage and I cuddle up with the book for 20 minutes of fun. Must be Sage's new definition of fun.
He's blossoming.
That is great! Sage is really very bright and talented, and I know it is there. Sounds like maybe he is starting to get a bit of voice for himself..... Go Sage!! I hope he will ask me to do phonics with him as well:-) I am a phonics gal from way back. I will also listen to him on skype if he will read a book to me on Skype. I have listened to the girls in London do that phonetic ready for a long time. It is fun!
ReplyDeleteI am pleased about track too! This guy was running before birth!!
All good news!!! Glad you are feeling OK.
