Keepin' It Real Wednesday

Write this one down in the books.

This evening the kids were angelic. Angelic? Well . . . sweet anyhow.

I'm not sure if this entry qualifies for my "keepin' it real Wednesday" theme but I'll keep it real as I share the joy of the day.

I don't know about you moms but I don't qualify as a "supermom" in my opinion. I have to try very hard to be what I see as a "good" mom. My aim is to be gentle, patient, kind, and an example of virtue for my children. I'm going for those things but at the same time a I want to be a good disciple-maker. One who is firm and consistent.

I often find myself discouraged. Thinking "How could I go so wrong when I care so much?" The bickering or complaining or disobedience gets me down. I often feel that I am a poor example and that is why they act this way. Agree or not with my feelings, it is how I often feel. Discouraged.

BUT . . . every once in a while, I remember that they are children. They are sinners just as I am. None of us is perfect. Don't be so hard on them. Don't expect more of them then you do of yourself, I say to myself.

And then . . . I see.  You know, they are good kids. They are clever, fun, creative little rugrats. They are. They astound me with their childlike genius sometimes.

They really are good kids. I am proud of them. May I always be thankful and grateful for God's gift of them.

Anywho . . . tonight Doug worked late. A potentially exhausting day.

I made a dinner that was all one pot. You know . . . all mixed together like so many kids hate. Somehow kids need to see things all separated and recognizable on a dinner plate.

Well, I put it on the table and they ate it up. They said it was delicious and then ate it up. A one-pot wonder.

After dinner I start to think about cleaning up the kitchen. I glance around the kitchen and note something wondrous to my eyes. Complete peace and harmony.

One kid has pushed a chair up to the sink trying to wash the dishes.

One kid is reading on the couch.

And the other kid is copying a poem at the counter.

Nice job guys. I go to bed a happy mommy. Tired but happy.

  1. I see these kids as amazing!!! OK...but even as a grandma, that is not what kids usually do...Although it is mostly a girl .. thing...Except for my son, because he was the one who had to load the dishwasher at 4...and broke dishes (sorry, I bought 36 dinner plates cheaply) in hopes of getting out of the job...!!! Love it!
