Alaska Trip V: Homer (belated)

**Getting back to the Alaska trip posts. Finally

Homer is one of my favorite places to visit in Alaska. I think I finally learned on this trip that we really need more than one day there. We drove down not even thinking that we'd need more than a day. But really, one simply cannot really rush exploring and playing on the beach, right? Homer is such a beautiful place but the weather can (and did for us) turn on a dime. If you get there at the wrong time it can be quite windy and overcast but if you hit it right, there are not too many places more beautiful than Homer, Alaska. Note to self: if going back to Alaska, find a little place to set up camp for a couple days.

The first stop for us was lunch at The Chart Room. Known to us locals (yes, I'm still a local, right? Maybe?) as Land's End. Great idea, Jaemi! The weather was perfect for sitting outside. We were just off the beach where could do some site seeing while eating. The food was pretty darn good, I'd say. We got to see some whales surface during lunch and also saw a sea otter. (I forgot to mention that when we drove down from Anchorage we saw Beluga whales come pretty far out of the water.)

We did a bit of shopping on "the spit" after lunch. We gave the kids some money to spend on whatever they chose. Sage bought a raccoon hat, Nutmeg bought a matroshka doll, and Basil bought some gold.

After shopping we had a brief jaunt on the beach before heading back to Sterling for dinner.
