Advent and Christmas Around the World: Poland and Germany

We are changing up our schedule/studies a little for the Advent and Christmas season. We've started playfully learning about how people around the world observe Advent and celebrate Christmas around the world.

Last week we concentrated on Poland and Germany. Each day the kids unwrap a book from under our Advent tree (usually a library book). We read the book together and any other books we may have on the counties/region we are studying. We discuss the subject for a short while and then the kids color and label the country on their maps.

We are also bringing the fun into our arts, crafts, snacks, meals, and activities. I can't say I'm highly organized as I would love to be for this project. There is so much more that we could do but all the same, it has been enjoyable for all of us. A change of pace and a taste of something different can be a breath of fresh air!

Here's a few blurry pictures of what we accomplished last week. I hope this week to get a few better pictures.

My first go at Polish food: Slow Cooker Kielbasa Kapusta.  Recipe here.

Nutmeg diligently carried through with the Polish Star Ornament. Beautiful! I can't wait for a slow day to finish off my own.   Here's a great tutorial.

We had a few more books but we already returned them to the library.
