Our laid-back geography studies have been a success thus far this year. The kids are memorizing the capitals and locations of countries as we talk about them. We usually memorize the facts for two neighboring countries each week. Then I pick one of those countries to read about with our two youngest children. Monday nights we "travel" the globe by eating as ethnic a dinner as reasonably possible for us. I like to play some background music from the country of origin. Of course, this is a favorite evening for me as I enjoy the challenge of cooking-around-the-world. I learn something new too!
I've got a few pictures from our adventures. I'll try to remember to take more as our year progresses.
The countries we've "explored" through picture books and meals are:
Week 1: Iraq
Week 2: Israel
Week 3: Turkey
Week 4: Russia
Week 5: Romania
Week 5: Poland
Week 6: tomorrow: Germany (we'll be trying Jaegerschnitzel)
Iraq: Sumac Roast Chicken |
Russia: Solyanka Soup |
Romanian Meatball Soup |
