Doug took a personal retreat this weekend. So it was just the kids and I. We did pretty well, I think. Ask me again how I'm doing come Wednesday or Thursday. :) I might just be pretty tuckered out by then.
Anyhow, here's what we we've been up to.
Doug and I were a bit concerned that the weekend might need to be canceled. Basil had a stomach bug and I was feeling queasy myself. Basil was down the count for a day and then started gaining his strength (and stomach) after that first 24 hours. By God's grace, none of the other kids picked it up. (yet!! oh please) I think we may be in the clear.
Friday Basil took a sick day from lessons, which worked out just fine. Sage and I were able to work more effectively with it just being the two of us. He had an excellent Math day. We were both pleased with that! Here he is working on his research paragraph about ants. All decked out in ninja attire with his Lego ninja figure helping out. Oh, and a cup o' tea.
Ha,ha,ha! The sickie reading one of his sister's girly books. Bribery material right here!
Sage has been enjoying his "daily power bowl" lately. You can't tell in this picture but we've been making a sort of custard-like yogurt concoction with yogurt, kefir, and chia seeds. The chia seeds expand when mixed into the yogurt to make it a more custard-like texture.
Friday night we made pizzas.
Saturday we ran a few errands and then headed over to Portage to use their library there. They have the My Book House series that we enjoy. Much to our surprise the library was holding a family dance party. Sage wasn't keen on the idea (not a fan of noise) but Nutmeg was thrilled. She jumped right in on the locomotion line and the hokey pokey. Too cute.
On the way back home we stopped to play at a park. The pond was frozen over, so did some frolicking on the ice. It was so warm and beautiful! The advent of spring feels great.
This morning we hopped over to Durward's Glen.
The kids have always been too impatient to want to walk the trails there but today it serendipitously worked out! We wandered over to the trail dedicated to the stations of the cross. Have you over done this meditation? You think and pray through Jesus's journey to the cross. I had expected the kids to look around a minute and then want to turn around. I was amazed! We would look at each station and read the prayers together. The prayers were actually just perfect for us. The kids just kept going all the way up the hill. Fourteen stations in all. It was a beautifully reflective time for us. Thank you Lord!!
The trail ends at this small chapel with a cemetery beside it. I was blessed by such a beautiful, reflective, even adventurous walk. What a gorgeous day too!
Look! Two little creatures set up camp here: a spider and a bird.
There are so many wonderful things to say about your weekend! Basil recovered fast and ate pizza the next day? The rest made pizzas too, except for ...Mace? The frozen/thawing lake and I am glad they did not fall through. Sage was careful with Mace there...and Mace was able to navigate on ice! I sure like the place with the 14 stations...That is really well done...... and all the kiddos liked it and followed all the way through!! And no Doug to help out. I hereby crown you as the Queen mother! You are so amazing! So if no one is sick tonight, you are home free, and maybe Basil had an allergy to something he ate. His Aunt Julie has done that many times over the years.. .Bless you all! Now I know why Basil was not up to Skyping, but the others did. Miss Nutmeg is indeed reading some things.as she did with me on Skype Saturday!!.
